FEDERAL TESTS TYRES AT TARGA

Federal Tyres at Finish of Targa 2003
Targa Tasmania is renowned as the toughest high-speed bitumen rally in the Southern Hemisphere. Based on the Apple Isle, it has become synonomous with exotic sports cars and demanding driving conditions.

Federal Tyres selected a local adventurer couple to test their ultra high performance SS595 tyres on their Pegueot 206CC this year. Don and Margie McIntyre, of Hobart, are better known for their numerous adventures that include the BOC Round the World Yacht Race and spending a solitary year near Mawson Hut in the Antarctic.

Until recently, they ran a tour business on an icebreaker that plied between Hobart and the Antarctic.

This year was their second attempt at Targa Tasmania, following an accident in the event last year. Their aim was to earn a coveted Targa Plate, for crews finishing every competitive stage of the five-day rally that covers 2,300 kilometres. With no other motor sport experience, these high achievers did just that, managing to film their adventure as they went.

Not easily impressed, the McIntyres were full of praise for their Federal tyres.
"We beat far more exotic and powerful cars with experienced drivers," explained Don. "But those SS595 tyres put in a great performance for us on both wet and dry bitumen."

Their tyres showed only minimal wear compared to other brands on similar cars, claimed the McIntyres. "We had plenty of tread left when we needed it most.
It's amazing technology that features in Federal tyres, yet they sell at a competitive price."
